Manmonkai is a continent ringed by ten thousand gates — doors of slow fire cut into stone arches on the edge of the old world, through which, by a treaty no one living remembers signing, the dead are permitted to walk home, and the living are occasionally permitted to follow them.
The Manmonkai Player Handbook is the first of three core books. It contains everything a small table needs at character creation and at the road: seven pilgrim orders to join, the core dice pool and its resolution table, rules for travel across the ring of gates, and a quiet ruleset for the long nights around a fire.
“We wanted a rulebook that behaved like a novel, and a novel that remembered it had rules. This is our attempt.”
— The House
The core volume is printed in the house half-cloth binding and shipped in matching jacket stock. Every table that reserves the full three-book core before launch receives a folded map sheet of the capital at no charge.
“Beautiful in the hand and generous at the table — it treats both its setting and its storytellers with the seriousness they deserve.”— Early Reader, House correspondence, MMXXV
